“10 startup-friendly cities–and their success stories–show how small business is thriving.”

Kudos to our Portland pals. Entrepreneur Magazine rates PDX as a friendly, cooperative town for entrepreneurs. Good article to see what makes for an innovative environment in the top 10 U.S. cities for start-ups. Take a look.

But, the article asks an important question about the character of Oregon entrepreneurs.

Too  nice to change the world?

The Cooperator: Portland, Oregon

“Portland is a perennial favorite on most livable and most sustainable cities lists–means a high retention rate for workers. There’s only one downside: Portland may be too genial. “For good or ill, the collaborative mind-set tends to diffuse that killer instinct,” says Langler. “We don’t have too many people obsessed with dominating the world market.”

What do you think? Do we have the “fire in the belly” to win?
