Albany Research Center

It was on March 17, 1943 that President Franklin D. Roosevelt announced that the U. S. Bureau of Mines had selected a site in Albany, Oregon for the new Northwest Electro-development Laboratory. The original mission of the center was to find methods for using the abundant low-grade resources of the area, and to develop new metallurgical processes using the abundant electrical energy in the area. The name of the center was changed in 1945 to the Albany Metallurgy Research Center and was used through 1977 where the name was shortened to Albany Research Center. More ARC history…

I am a junior at West Albany High School. I am in an AP US History class and we were assigned a 3 page paper. Our assignment was to write about history in Albany and the surrounding areas. I am interested in writing my essay about the Albany Research Center, but I am lacking a little bit in the information department. You already have my email address, so I would very much appreciate it if you could send me more info. Thank you very much!!

    Have a great weekend,

    Hi Mariah,

I wrote what I know about the organization. I hope to post more about the ARC in the future. But, I’m sure that part of the reason for your assignment is for you to learn how to do the research.

The ARC is a good subject and the web & Google makes research easy now. Below are a couple of places to look for more info. Research is a great way to learn about a subject and the process of gathering relevant information.

    Good luck with your paper.
